SENEGAL WORKSHOPS
Pape invites you to experience the vibrancy and warm traditions of Senegal on this unique drumming and dance workshop. Living amongst a genuinely warm and friendly people, you will get to share in village life including mealtimes, everyday rituals and mystical cultural ceremonies. 2 week and 4 week workshops for 2009 will be held in January and June.

DRUM & DANCE CLASSES
Pape teaches weekly classes in djembe and sabar drumming, and African dance. Beginners Djembe and African Dance classes are run through Sydney Community College.

Pape Mbaye

Introducing Pape Mbaye, a recognised percussionist (Sabar, Tama, Djembe, Bougarabou, Saorouba, Congas, and Timbalis); as well as a dancer, choreographer, teacher and Griot (oral history, tradition and culture teacher and exponent).

• 1976-1999 head drummer of the village of Yoff in Senegal
  
• Has worked with Cheikh Lo and Souleyman Faye to name just a few….
  
• Has been in bands that have played alongside BB King, Miles Davis and Ringo Starr
  
• Has been a percussionist and dancer for L'Ensemble Traditionelle Sorano, L'Orchestre Nationale du Senegal, Assamane, Le Super Sabor de Dakar, Bubaca, Back to Africa, Gervais Koffi and African Diaspora, and Tambacounda. In addition Pape was a recognised studio musician in Senegal
  
• Since 1999 he has been living, teaching and performing in Sydney, Australia. In 2003 he released his first CD 'Listen! Drum Speaking', followed by his second album 'Yoff' in 2005.
